Accuracy of the sweat test: advantage of a micromethod.

چکیده
The high sweat electrolyte concentration in cystic fibrosis is most important in the diagnosis of this disease. The method used for its determination should be simple to perform, harmless to the patient, and accurate. The widely-used method of collecting sweat on a filter paper (Shwachman, Leubner, and Catzel, 1955) after pilocarpine iontophoresis (Gibson and Cooke, 1959) fulfils the first two conditions but not the latter. Both weighing and elution may introduce serious errors, and the method is known to be unreliable for samples weighing under 20 mg. Moreover, the sweat sample is not transportable and has to be analysed rapidly in order to avoid evaporation. A simple, harmless, and accurate method of collecting and estimating sweat electrolyte concentration is described, which has given satisfactory results for over three years (de Haller, Siegenthaler, Hampal, Spahr, Vulliet, and Favre, 1962; Siegenthaler, de Haller, de Haller, Hampal, and Muller, 1964).

Background & Aims: Pancreatic Elastase–1 (EL-1) is a human specific protease enzyme, produced and secreted by pancreatic acinar cells. This enzyme is stable and is not affected by prescriptions of supplement pancreatic enzymes, and it has good connection with pancreatic stimulation function tests. The Purpose of this study is to compare fecal pancreatic elastase–1 concentration in patients wi...
متن کاملEffect of Experimental Salt Depletion and Aldosterone Load on Sodium and Chloride Concentration in the Sweat of Patients with Cystic Fibrosis of the Pancreas and of Normal Children.
Aldosterone plays an important part in the regulation of the extracellular volume. It is known today that this corticosteroid influences not only the tubular reabsorption of sodium in the kidneys, but also intervenes in the sodium elimination mechanism of the sweat glands (Siegenthaler, de Haller, Veyrat and Muller, 1962). The study of the renal and extrarenal effect of aldosterone is best acco...
متن کاملSweat gland adenocarcinoma of the scalp: A case report
Sweat gland adenocarcinoma is a relatively uncommon malignancy. Clinical features are painless red or violet papules and nodules that can occasionally become ulcerated. The biological behavior is aggressive and metastatic sweat gland carcinoma spreads through the lymphatic. The treatment of choice is wide surgical excision with regional lymph node dissection. The portrayed ase was a 60-year-old...
متن کاملF-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma of the Scrotum with Extensive Regional and Distant Metastases
Eccrine carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer arising from eccrine sweat glands with a high metastatic potential. It mainly occurs in the elderly, with equal incidence in both sexes. It usually spreads to regional lymph nodes, with liver, lungs, and bones being the most common sites of distant metastasis. Because of tumor rarity, little is known about the value of F18- FDG PET/CT...
متن کاملThe Effects of Game-based Learning on the Grammatical Accuracy of Iranian High school Students
Teaching grammar has always been a problematic area of language teaching. While teachers spend a great deal of time and energy to teach, the students are not eager to learn as they find it a real chore. This study compared two kinds of activities for teaching grammar: games and traditional exercises. It sought to discover the effect of games on the students’ grammatical accuracy. For this purp...
